Javier Ferreira M.D has participated as part of the scientific committee of the 30th annual meeting of the Society of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. He has also presented two papers: "Ultrasound approach of flexor pulleys" and "Carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve injuries in the wrist and elbow".
The congress, which counted with the presence of high level speakers, was a success in attendance and participation, bringing together professionals from all over the world.

During the 28th and 29th of January took place at the Hospital San Rafael in Madrid, the 1st course of hand and wrist ultrasound, level 1, organized by the Spanish Society of Ultrasound, and directed by Javier Ferreira M.D.
The course included an exhaustive review of the ultrasound anatomy of the hand and wrist, addressing aspects of ultrasound diagnosis and ultrasound-guided treatment of different pathologies.
This course is the first of the hand and wrist training block that will be completed with level 2 in the coming months.

Javier Ferreira M.D has collaborated in this book, written by Jimenez Diaz M.D, president of the Spanish Society of Ultrasound, and edited by Marban, a must read for anyone who wants to start their journey in the world of hand and wrist ultrasound.
The work is part of a 7-volume treatise covering musculoskeletal ultrasound of the entire locomotive system.

The presentation of the practical guide de of musculo-skeletal ultrasound of the Spanish Society of Sports Medicine took place today in a hotel in Madrid. Javier Ferreira M.D has collaborated as an author.
This guide provides some aspects not covered in classic books on musculoskeletal ultrasound, with chapters on how to make an ultrasound report, ecoprevention, training of the sonographer... It also deals with new concepts in the fields of anaesthesia, traumatology, sports medicine, etc.
All this makes this guide a reference for those specialists who want to get started in the world of ultrasound.

Javier Ferreira M.D has participated in the SATO Seminar, held in Seville, in which the contributions of musculoskeletal ultrasound in Traumatology have been reviewed: clinical diagnosis, ultrasound-guided therapies and ultrasound-assisted surgeries. Dr. Ferreira shared his extensive experience in the ultrasound-guided treatment of calcific tendinosis, with the "Barbotage" aspiration puncture technique. The technique consists of ultrasound-guided percutaneous lavage of calcifications in the rotator cuff of the shoulder, which makes it possible to eliminate them easily, improving the pain and functionality of the affected shoulder, and avoiding surgical treatment.

Javier Ferreira M.D obtained the position of Associate Professor in Health Sciences, in the Department of Surgery, Medical and Social Sciences, at the University of Alcalá de Henares, carrying out his undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activity at the University Hospital of Guadalajara, where he has been carrying out his healthcare activity since 2001.

Javier Ferreira M.D has been the presenter of the Webinar, organized by AOTRAUMA, held in Zurich and that dealt with the surgical treatment of distal radius fractures; the presentation was focused on the controversy of the use of implants by volar approach, dorsal approach or both in the treatment of complex fractures of the distal end of the radius. The usual techniques of use and Ferreira M.D's experience with novel implants currently used in Maxillofacial Surgery and Neurosurgery were presented.
There were 1332 registered participants, 429 of whom followed the event live from 88 different countries; a great success in terms of participation.
Eben Carroll M.D from Wake Forest University acted as moderator, and together with Ferreira M.D answered the numerous questions that were suggested during and at the end of the presentation.

The International Chair of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound was created in February 2013, by the Governing Council of the Catholic University San Antonio of Murcia with the aim of extending training in musculoskeletal ultrasound and knowledge of the applications, indications and limitations of ultrasound of the locomotive system.
The professors that make up the teaching staff, including since last month Javier Ferreira Villanova M.D, with the directors of the Chair, Jimenez M.D and Bouffard M.D at the head, are transmitting the sensitivity for this technique to all participants in the courses, from different specialties such as radiology, sports medicine, rheumatology or anaesthesiology among others. The training programmes in musculoskeletal ultrasound, which the Catholic University of Murcia is giving in different countries around the world, where they have been able to share teachings and experiences with wonderful people from different countries, cultures and religions.
The UCAM provides institutional and educational university support to sport and also reinforces it with research support and as proof of this, it has created different chairs related to physical activity and sport.
Specifically, the Chair of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound is taking the name of the UCAM beyond our borders, to numerous countries in America, Asia and even Africa; in addition, with its educational programmes, it is transferring training of excellence in ultrasound to different corners of the world, through the training of good specialists.

Javier Ferreira M.D participated as a speaker at the 2nd course of Ultrasound and Wrist and Hand Dissection, a course organised by Acumed Ibérica, held at the Faculty of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid and directed by M.ª Dolores Gimeno García- Andrade M.D, from the Clinical Hospital of San Carlos. The course was divided into two parts, the first part dealt with upper limb ultrasound from the elbow to the fingers with the help of specialised radiologists and traumatologists specialising in the upper limb; Javier Ferreira M.D explained the ultrasound diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome. In the second part, wrist procedures were studied in an eminently practical format with short lectures and cadaver practice.

Javier Ferreira M.D participated in the IX Edition of the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course on shoulder injuries, held in Toledo. With the same theoretical outline as in previous years, this course aimed at doctors, aims to offer a basic and advanced update in the knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound.
The course has focused on the multidisciplinary study of shoulder pathology, taking ultrasound as a reference, but reviewing very practical aspects related to sports and occupational medicine, rehabilitation, interventional therapy, orthopaedic surgery and traumatology, anaesthesia, etc.
Javier Ferreira M.D spoke on the diagnosis and ultrasound-guided treatment of patients with chronic omalgia and on the usefulness and indications for the use of PRP, and participated in practical workshops on shoulder ultrasound.

Javier Ferreira M.D participated together with leading European specialists as a lecturer in the AO Trauma international seminar on hand and wrist fractures held in Madrid, directed by González del Pino M.D and Campbell M.D.
His lectures dealt with the classification of finger fractures and proximal carpectomy. The seminar combined theoretical sessions with the presentation of clinical cases.

Javier Ferreira M.D participated as a speaker at the 5th Theoretical-Practical Surgical Skills Course on Advances in Wrist and Hand Arthroscopy, where he developed the topics of Cubitocarpal impaction syndrome and ultrasound-guided treatment of wrist pathologies, including the novel technique of ultrasound-guided infiltration and hydrodissection in carpal tunnel syndrome, which is the subject of his doctoral thesis.

Javier Ferreira M.D has participated as a speaker and instructor in the AO Trauma Advanced Course "Hand and Wrist", directed by González del Pino M.D and Mir M.D, which took place on the 18th and 19th of November in Madrid.
The course taught the most innovative principles of AOTrauma for the treatment of hand and wrist fractures. In addition, clinical case sessions were held by the teachers in small groups, with the aim of holding small groups, with the aim of holding close discussion sessions with the students.

Javier Ferreira M.D has participated as a speaker at the 13th congress of the International Federation of Societies of Hand Surgery (IFSSH) held in Argentina from 24 to 28 October.
This congress brings together every 3 years the best specialists in the world to exchange and communicate advances in the field of hand surgery.
The presentation entitled "Ultrasound-guided Hydrodissection for Severe Carpal Tunnel Treatment" was detailed by Javier Ferreira M.D, the creator of the technique, who presented its promising results, avoiding surgery in many patients.

Javier Ferreira M.D has participated in the interactive sessions of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology sponsored by the Castilla-La Mancha Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, which have been held at the University Hospital of Guadalajara.
On this occasion, the subject of new technologies in Orthopaedic Surgery was discussed, with special emphasis on computerised preoperative planning (Raim Alma Ortho computer system) for hip prostheses, as well as the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the speciality.
Javier Ferreira M.D gave a lecture on the usefulness of ultrasound in the speciality and also participated as a monitor in the musculoskeletal ultrasound practices carried out during the conference.

Javier Ferreira M.D has obtained the degree of Doctor of Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid for the original research work entitled "Infiltration and ultrasound-guided hydrodissection in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome".
The doctoral thesis establishes the anatomical, physiological and ultrasound bases for performing perineural infiltrations in the median nerve under the criteria of efficacy and safety.
It is a prospective observational study in which the therapeutic effect of hydrodissection and local infiltration of the carpal tunnel with triamcinolone was analysed in 36 consecutive patients with severe carpal tunnel syndrome according to the clinical criteria of the American Neurological Association and the initial neurophysiological study.
This ultrasound-guided technique is a reasonable therapeutic alternative with an estimated success rate of 56 % of cases, with subsequent surgical release if necessary.

This workshop is part of an extensive training programme in musculoskeletal ultrasound that Rovi Laboratories is developing nationwide.
On this occasion we had the outstanding participation of Ingrid Möller M.D, a European reference in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
It was aimed at professionals who treat patients with pathology of the Locomotive system (traumatologists, rehabilitators, emergency professionals, etc...). It was developed in four stations or ultrasound stations by anatomical areas, each with a teacher and 6 students.
The students had an excellent opportunity to review all the anatomy of the upper and lower limbs, learning basic ultrasound exploration in different joints.

Javier Ferreira M.D has participated as a speaker at the VII Institutional Course SECMA, organized by the Spanish Society of Hand Surgery, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University San Pablo CEU, on May 21.
It was a refresher course on pathology and surgical techniques in hand surgery, aimed at resident interns in the specialties of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology as well as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
With more than 20 hours of duration, an exhaustive review of the most relevant pathology within the speciality has been carried out, with the participation of the most relevant specialists in each subject.

Javier Ferreira M.D has participated as a speaker at the VI Pzifer meeting of CONTROVERSIES IN THE LOCOMOTIVE SYSTEM, organised by Avila M.D and Casañas M.D, in the round table "Ultrasound in the locomotive system" and as an instructor in the practical workshops that have taken place on May 15 and 16 in Sitges.
It was an interesting round table in which the latest advances in ultrasound in the upper extremity, both in the shoulder and elbow as well as in the hand and wrist, were brought up to date.
The increasingly important role of ultrasound in the pathology of the locomotive system was highlighted, both in diagnosis and in assisting minimally invasive surgical techniques.
